Della Grigsby the artist: Della is one of a relatively small group of cellists who specializes in performing musical styles that are outside of the typical cello repertoire. She is quickly gaining recognition for her elegant sound.
Her innate gift for rhythm was the driving force that caused her to explore outside the classical cello envelope. Della has developed a rich and diverse repertoire which includes standards, show tunes, contemporary, jazz, latin, and blues.
Initially Della's career focused on playing in orchestras, performing as a solo cellist, and participating in chamber music ensembles. Her classical training has allowed her to produce a rich and resonant cello sound. Della studied under renowned classical teachers including Johanna deKeyser, a Tchaikovsky Competition Winner, and Gabor Rejto, a protégé of Pablo Casals. She enhanced her cello training with jazz instruction at the Berklee College of Music and Broadway pop in New York City with Pendleton Brown, original singer/songwriter.
Della has performed for international audiences including 'Astronique', an astronaut Celtic band, at Festival Interceltique (Lorient, France) and with 'Interior Time' (new age quartet) in the King's Chamber at the Great Pyramid of Giza (Giza, Egypt).
LaBella Cello is inspired by many of the great standard singers and currently performs music that is rich in its style and diversity - from Bach to Billy Joel. |
